Press Release Body: Renewable Energy Specialists Energi plc based at Lancaster University\'s Environment Centre are dedicated to making residential solar energy systems a real alternative to traditional carbon based energy such as gas, coal and oil.
With energy prices set to rise way ahead of inflation again this winter, many UK households could find themselves in fuel poverty. Business Secretary John Hutton recently stated the time has come to make \"a decisive shift to a low-carbon economy\"1.
Fuel poverty is defined as a person or household which spends more than 10% of its income on heating their home adequately. A spokesperson from Energi plc said;
\"Fuel poverty is not only a result of low income; it can also be due to fuel price increases above and beyond inflation and more importantly poor insulation and inefficient heating & hot water systems.\"
With regards to inefficient heating and hot water systems, installing residential solar panels could make a dramatic difference to most household\'s annual heating bills, not to mention the annual reduction in CO2 emissions. The Energi plc spokesperson added;
\"You could be saving up to 1.1 tonnes of CO2 a year and this could mean £150 - £200 off your electricity bill\"
Energi plc offers a variety of residential solar energy systems such as \'grid connected\' systems which tap straight in to an existing electricity supply. Any surplus power is fed back into the main grid and your energy supplier may pay you for this. Alternatively, a stand alone system (also known as an \'off-grid\' solar energy system) may be connected to a battery enabling the energy to be stored for night time use.
Regardless of which residential solar energy system is best suited to your homes needs, the main benefit is clear. The more solar energy a home can produce, the less reliant on traditional carbon based energy the home will become, keeping you and your family safe from fuel poverty in the future.
